Arriving Here

You can arrive by train to Hopton Heath Station - just a 2 minute walk from the house. We are just 2 hours from Birmingham and Manchester and 4 hours from Cardiff.

 

Don't worry - you won't be disturbed by lots of trains whilst you're here. There are just 4 a day in each direction and only a single carriage!

 

If you don't want to go completely car free - how about coming with some friends and sharing a car?

What to do When You're Here

We have lots of lovely walks from the house. You can take a 45 minute stroll or a 8 or 15 mile circular. There's a walk to Broome - takes about 4 hours, then you can get the train back. Or take the train down to Bucknell and walk back from there over the hills.

 

Or you could just walk to Clun ( about 6 miles ), have lunch and a pint, explore the village, then walk back.

 

Rocke Cottage tearooms ( open Wednesday - Sunday ) are just over a mile away.

 

If you'd rather visit a town. There are several buses a day from Hopton Heath to Ludlow. The timetable is here .

 

You can take the train up to Shrewsbury or Church Stretton or down into Wales. At Knighton you can do a circular walk on Offa's Dyke or you can travel further down into Wales and explore one of the towns or villages along the way.

 

You can hire bikes from Wheely Wonderful . Book in advance and get them delivered to Hopton House.

What About Eating?

 

We have no pubs within strolling distance. A Hopton House breakfast will probably keep you going till teatime. Then there is the fruit cake waiting outside your room.

 

We can provide a packed lunch at £5 a head ( please book in advance ) 

 

You can book Craig the taxi to take you to the Jolly Frog and back for £14 return.

 

We can provide you with a light supper or full 3 course meal at Hopton House.

 

Or how about taking the 12.25 train to Shrewsbury and having a late lunch / early supper at the new Loch Fyne Restaurant in Shrewsbury, before getting the 6.00 train back and enjoying an evening in watching a DVD?
