A Warm Welcome for Guest Dogs at Hopton House

Mitsi and Murphy would like to welcome you and your dog to Hopton House B&B. Mitsi and Murphy are both rescue dogs and adore people and most dogs. Murphy has just achieved his Kennel Club Good Citizenship Gold Award and Mitsi is currently working towards hers. Mitsi likes to play but isn't keen on puppies!

 

Please note that from the beginning of August guest dogs will be accommodated ( with their owners ! )  in the new Barn Room only. The Barn is a downstairs room. It has wooden floors with rugs and direct access out into the garden - so ideal for taking your dog out for an early morning or late evening walk without fear or disturbing other guests or our own Mitsi and Murphy.

 

We’re not big on rules at Hopton House but we’d be grateful if you could read the following to ensure you and our other guests have a relaxing stay. If Hopton House isn't the right B&B for you and your canine friend then please see the Dogpeople website for a selection of other places locally.

 

We are happy to welcome responsible dog owners and one well behaved house trained dog at Hopton House. Sorry no puppies or dogs that are  likely to be at all aggressive to other dogs or people.

 

We charge an extra £20 per stay per dog to cover the additional deep cleaning we do after your stay.

 

Provided they won't chase the chickens you are welcome to let your dog wander round the paddock and garden. If you want to take them out for a walk from Hopton House then turn right out of the drive and right on the road to Hopton Castle. This is a quiet-ish road with verges.

 

The White Horse, Clun, Baron of Beef in Bucknell and Riverside Inn at Aymestry are all dog friendly pubs. There are also a couple of pubs in Ludlow that allow dogs such as the Church Inn at the Buttercross.

 

Croft Castle is a National Trust Property about 25 minutes away. Whilst dogs aren’t allowed into the property they do have miles of walks in the parklands where dogs are allowed on lead. Hergest Croft Gardens allows dogs in the grounds – again on lead.

 

If you want to walk your dog off-lead you can drive up to Hopton Wood and park in the forestry commission car park. It’s a 5 minute drive and has miles of off-lead walking. If your dog is likely to chase the chickens then please keep it on lead in the garden. They are named family pets and expensive rare breed.

 

The garden is well dog proofed but if you own a talented escapologist who is likely to get through or over the fence please be aware that we usually have sheep and cows in the next field. 

 

Any bagged dog waste should be put in the BLACK bin. Please clear up after your dog if they make a mess on the lawn or mown paths in the paddock. We are happy to provide free bio degradable dog bags on request.

 

We know ( from personal experience! ) that even well trained dogs can have accidents in strange places – if this happens there is a stain remover and kitchen towel in your bathroom. We’d be grateful if you could dry off dogs and wipe off muddy paws before taking them into the bedroom – ask if you need a dog towel.

 

Even though we let guests know that we have dogs please be aware that not everyone likes dogs. So we ask that you don’t let your dog approach any other guests unless they encourage it.

 

We are not able to allow dogs in the dining room at breakfast if we have other guests in. If you are the only guests staying we are happy to waive this rule.

 

If you are following a marked footpath through a field with livestock then please keep your dog on a lead. When the lambs are very young if you can avoid walking through the field, even when following a footpath, then please do so. Both the ewes and lambs can bolt and end up losing each other. I personally also avoid walking my dogs in a field of bullocks.

 

Please don't allow your dog on the bed or other furniture in the guest bedrooms.

 

We request that dogs aren't left alone in the guest bedroom. We’ve found out the hard way that even well trained dogs who are happy to be left home alone may bark constantly, scratch and have accidents when left in a strange place.
